After a brief visit with his daughter, Kim, Bryan Mills is met by his former wife, Lenore. She tells him that she and husband, Stuart St. John, are having marital problems. She has rekindled romantic feelings for Bryan who refuses to become involved while she is still married. Later, Stuart warns Bryan to stay away from Lenore.

The following day, Lenore texts Bryan asking to meet him. Bryan agrees, but upon returning to his apartment discovers Lenore's body. Almost immediately, the Los Angeles Police Department arrive to arrest Bryan on suspicion of murder. Bryan escapes and sets out to investigate the homicide. Meanwhile, LAPD Inspector Franck Dotzler, who quickly becomes familiar with Bryan's unique background, heads the manhunt to capture Bryan.

Bryan recovers weapons and electronics from a secure location, then retraces Lenore's footsteps just prior to her murder. At a convenience store, he recovers surveillance footage of Lenore being abducted by unidentified men. LAPD detectives arrive and unknown to them, Bryan allows himself to be arrested, then commandeers the police car to access LAPD's computer system from the vehicle's laptop to analyze information.

Later, Bryan meets with Kim on her college campus and he removes a surveillance bug that was unknowingly placed on her by the LAPD. She tells him about Stuart's bodyguards. Bryan abducts and interrogates Stuart, who reveals that his debt to an ex-KGBSpetsnaz and Afghan War veteran operative named Oleg Malankov was the probable motive for Lenore's murder.

With assistance from his CIA colleagues and a reluctant Stuart, Bryan gains entry to Malankov's heavily-guarded suite. After killing the guard, he mortally wounds Malankov, who says that Stuart had played both men against each other. Meanwhile, Stuart shoots Bryan's CIA colleague, Sam, and abducts Kim, intending to flee the country with the US$12 million he's collected from Lenore's life insurance policy. Bryan chases Stuart to the airport just as Stuart's plane is being prepared for takeoff. After disabling the plane, Bryan overpowers Stuart, telling Stuart he will spend time in prison for his involvement in Lenore's murder. Bryan further tells Stuart that he will later answer for her death. Dotzler and the LAPD arrive and arrest Stuart.

In the aftermath of Stuart's arrest, Kim, who is pregnant, informs Bryan that she wants to name her baby Lenore, after her mother.

While practicing, Merida ventures into the woods to fetch a stray arrow, where she encounters a will-o'-the-wisp. Soon afterwards, Mor'du, a giant demon-bear, attacks the family. Merida escapes on horseback with Elinor, while Fergus fights off the bear at the cost of his left leg. Years later, Merida has become a free-spirited, headstrong sixteen-year-old with much younger identical triplet brothers, Hamish, Huburt, and Harris. Elinor informs her that she is to be betrothed to one of her father's allied clans, against her will. Reminding Merida of a legend about a prince who had ruined his own kingdom by pride and refusal to follow his father's wishes, Elinor warns her that failure to consent to the marriage could harm Dunbroch, but Merida is unhappy with the arrangement.

The clans of Macintosh, MacGuffin and Dingwall arrive with their firstborn sons to compete in the Highland Games for Merida's hand in marriage. Merida, twisting the rules, announces she is eligible to compete for her own hand as the first-born of Clan Dunbroch and defeats each of her suitors in an archery contest, shaming the other clans. Merida and Elinor argue, with Merida tearing the family tapestry and Elinor throwing Merida's longbow into the fire out of anger. Merida then storms out in tears and rides into the forest, where she again encounters the will-o'-the-wisps, which she follows to the hut of an elderly witch posing as a wood carver. The woman initially denies that she is a witch, but after some bargaining in which Merida purchases all her carvings, agrees to give Merida an enchanted cake to change her mother's mind.

A dog named Bolt (John Travolta) and a girl named Penny (Miley Cyrus) star on a hit television series called Bolt in which the titular character has various superpowers and must constantly thwart the evil plans of the nefarious Doctor Calico (Malcolm McDowell). To gain a more realistic performance, the TV show's producers have deceived Bolt his entire life, arranging the filming in such a way that Bolt believes the television show is real and he really has superpowers, including a powerful sonic scream-like "superbark". Mistakenly believing Penny has been kidnapped by the villain, Bolt escapes from his on-set trailer in Hollywood but falls into a box of foam peanuts and unknown to the film company is accidentally shipped to New York City. In New York, Bolt starts to notice that his "superpowers" aren't working, and rationalizes this is the effect that styrofoam has on his body. He then meets Mittens (Susie Essman), a female alley cat who bullies pigeons out of their food. Bolt forces Mittens to help him get back to Hollywood, and after Bolt knocks Mittens unconscious the two start their journey westward on a truck. In Hollywood, Penny is deeply saddened over Bolt's disappearance but is convinced by the studio to continue filming with a Bolt lookalike.

The RIG also uses gauges on Isaac's back to display his health and stasis module levels. If Isaac's health or air timer reaches zero, or if the player fails to survive a quick-time event, Isaac will die, forcing the player to restart from the last checkpoint.

Nick awakens in the office of Mildred Proctor (Mary-Louise Parker), director of the Rest In Peace Department (R.I.P.D.), an agency that recruits deceased police officers to patrol the afterlife and capture "Deados", spirits that refuse to cross over and return to Earth as monstrous ghosts. Nick agrees to join the R.I.P.D. after Proctor promises to help him reunite with Julia and meets his new partner, Roy Pulsipher (Jeff Bridges), an ex-U.S. Marshall who lived in the 1800's.

Nick and Roy return to Earth to attend Nick's funeral, where Nick learns R.I.P.D. officers are assigned avatars, which is how humans perceive them. Nick's is an elderly Chinese man, Jerry Chen (James Hong) and Roy's is an attractive Russian woman, Opal Pavlenko (Marisa Miller). After failing to communicate with Julia, Nick accompanies Roy to the apartment of a suspect, Stanley Nawlicki (Robert Knepper), who tries to escape and is killed by the duo. Pieces of gold identical to the ones Nick stole are found in Nawlicki's possessions and sent to Internal Affairs for analysis.

Nick and Roy then meet with Elliot (Mike O'Malley), a dealer set to make an exchange with someone, revealed to be Hayes. Nick and Roy follow him to Nick's house, where Hayes retrieves Nick's share of the gold, leading Julia to believe Nick was corrupt. From there, the duo tails Hayes to an abandoned warehouse where he gives the gold to a Deado, Pulaski (Devin Ratray), who escapes due to Nick and Roy's intervention. Proctor, infuriated, takes them off the case, but they decide to continue the investigation on their own after learning the pieces of golds are components of the Staff of Jericho, a mystic device that could reverse the tunnel that transports the dead into the afterlife, returning them to New York City.

Nick and Roy visit Hayes, who quickly finds out who they are and reveals himself to be a Deado. He is arrested and brought to RIPD's headquarters, where he and other Deados manage to escape after stealing the components of the Staff of Jericho and return to Earth. While the Deados assemble the Staff of Jericho, Hayes kidnaps Julia to use her as a human sacrifice to open the portal. Nick and Roy arrive and after killing the Deados, including Pulaski, Nick goes to save Julia while Roy destroys the Staff of Jericho and saves the city. Although Nick manages to kill Hayes, Julia succumbs to her wounds and dies in his arms before Proctor arrives and informs Nick that he has earned redemption and Julia has been awarded a second chance.

Julia is revived in the hospital and begins recovery, and Proctor reinstates Nick and Roy into the agency, in addition to providing Nick with a new avatar, which is soon revealed to be a 10-year-old girl scout (Piper Mackenzie Harris), much to Nick's disappointment. Nick and Roy then get into Nick's car and drive away.

These abilities are free to use, but require a "cooldown" period before they can be used again. One ability, called Chain Shot, has been mentioned in previews and allows Thorton to scan a group of enemies in slow-motion before popping out of cover and shooting each of them more rapidly than he would be capable of normally.

The more charisma that is gained, the more squad mates the character can recruit, including leaderless guerrillas and wounded Russian soldiers, up to a maximum of twelve.

Freedom Fighters uses a simple method of controlling recruits in battle. In the game, the player can command recruits by giving them simple orders such as "follow", "attack", and "defend", but in most situations, they take care of themselves. Given the terrain of New York City after the initial invasion, the Resistance usually stations its soldiers in covered positions like craters and buildings.

Money can also be used to purchase clothing items, weapons and cars, or may be used to upgrade weapons and cars, such as adding scopes or extra barrels to a weapon, which are then stored in the player's arsenal. Finally, money can be used to upgrade the Saints gang, customizing their appearance, outfits, and headquarters.

The designers have also improved the stealth system. Instead of merely being able to do more damage when striking without being seen, The Two Thrones uses a speed-kill system. If the player does not complete the speed kill, the enemy knocks him off and the speed kill fails. The amount of moves or the length of time required depends on how strong the opponents are. The same system is also used in some of the boss battles.
